WebRunner, Online Schedule Unavailable Oct. 29 & 30

WebRunner and the Online Schedule of Classes will be unavailable this weekend, Oct. 29 & 30. The college is implementing much-needed upgrades and performing maintenance on its computer systems. Sites should be available again Monday morning.

AARP Driver Safety Program Offered in Lebanon and Sweet Home

Contact: LBCC Community Education, 541-259-5801 AARP Driver Safety Program will be held Nov. 10, 8:30 a.m.-2:50 p.m. at the Lebanon Senior Center, and Nov. 14, 9 a.m.-3:20 p.m. at the Sweet Home Police Department. AARP’s program develops and reinforces safe driving skills and techniques. Check with your insurance company to see if completion of this class qualifies for reduced auto insurance premiums. Piano Just for Fun

Taught by nationally-known pianist Donn Rochlin, this class is for the total beginner as well as classical pianist. Learn the chords and tools needed to play your favorite songs, and how to improvise freely without years of practice, how chords work in a song, and how to get more out of sheet music by reading less.  This one-session class meets Saturday, November 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Albany Senior Center, 489 Water Ave. Ages 16 and up are welcome. Cost is $99 and includes guide and CD. The water line at LBCC's Albany campus has been repaired. Evening classes on Albany campus are still cancelled. The college will open on time on Wednesday, Oct. 26.

Home Beer Brewing Classes Start Oct. 29

Media Contact: LBCC Community Education, Albany 541-917-4840 Beer brewing classes taught by Corvallis Brewing Supply owner Joel Rea will be held through Linn-Benton Community College starting Saturday, October 29. A three-day “Beginning Homebrewing” class explores beer styles and brewing history along with the tools and techniques used in home fermentation, from boiling the kettle to filling the bottle.  Class meets three Saturdays from 2:30 to 4:50 p.m. starting October 29 at First Alternative Co-Op, 1007 SE Third St., Corvallis. Cost is $99.    A one-day workshop “Advanced Homebrewing” provides a greater appreciation for the craft of brewing while you brew a batch of beer in an “all-grain” process. LBCC Web Services have been restored following a lengthy internet interruption this morning. Moodle, WebRunner, gmail and other services are functional again. 

Grand Opening for Innovation and Heavy Equipment Diesel Center Oct. 20

Linn-Benton Community College will hold a Grand Opening for its new Innovation and Heavy Equipment Center at 2000 Oak Street in Lebanon Thursday, October 20. Expected guests include Senator Ron Wyden, Congressman Peter DeFazio, several state and local elected officials, and national industry leaders and representatives. Tours of the new facilities will be given after a brief program, which begins at 11:15 a.m. and is open to the public. The 37,000-square-foot training center includes state-of-the-art equipment to train students in heavy equipment and diesel repair, and an Innovation Center, which offers space for industry to train employees and test equipment. Training will also be offered in alternative fuels for heavy transportation vehicles. The diesel program’s move from the college’s Albany campus brings all transportation training programs onto one shared campus, opening up space for expansion of the other college industrial programs.   The Advanced Transportatio

LBCC South Santiam Hall Gallery Features Pablo Solares

An exhibit of recent oil paintings from regional artist Pablo Solares, titled Retratos (Portraits) will be on display through October 26 in the South Santiam Hall Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Retratos features eleven vibrant oil paintings exploring the concept of portraiture. Solares moves beyond the standard definition of a portrait, using landscape as a broad portrayal of identity in addition to traditional portraiture. Solares, a visual artist and professional runner, has been in numerous exhibitions and recently completed two murals for the Cesar Chavez Cultural Center at Oregon State University. A closing reception will be held in the South Santiam Hall Gallery Tuesday, October 25 from 12 to 1 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. North Santiam Hall Gallery exhibits work of Oregon State Art Faculty

North Santiam Hall Gallery presents a group exhibition of diverse work by the art faculty of Oregon State University on display through December 2 at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. The OSU Art Faculty Show features 14 artists: Evan Baden, Michael Boonstra, Julia Bradshaw, Katherine Campbell, Anna Fidler, Lee Ann Garrison, Julie Green, Stephen Hayes, Yuji Hiratsuka, Shelley Jordon, Andrew Myers, Felix Oliveros, Kerry Skarbakka, and John Whitten. The work on view showcases a vivid range of subject matter, style and media including photography, paintings in oil, tempera and acrylic; printmaking using screen and chine colle techniques; graphite on paper, and video. A reception and artist talk is scheduled for Wednesday, October 26 from 12 to 1pm in the NSH Gallery second floor atrium. The exhibit extends to both floors of the gallery. Spanish language Pesticides Laws & Safety class

Spanish language Pesticides Laws & Safety class held October 27 & 28 A Pesticide Laws and Safety class in Spanish will be held through the Small Business Development Center at Linn-Benton Community College October 27 and 28. Designed to prepare senior agriculture workers to take the State of Oregon Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator exam, classes provide in-depth training, including extra coaching in math and calibration skills.  Course may be used for recertification credits. Pesticide Private Applicator in Spanish meets October 27 and 28, beginning at 8 a.m. both days, at LBCC’s Calapooia Center, room CC-203/205. Cost is $119. Free Gardening Series with OSU Master Gardeners starts Oct. 27

A free gardening series with OSU Master Gardeners will meet Thursdays from Noon-12:50 p.m. at the LBCC Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way, starting Oct. 27. Sharpen your gardening skills and learn new techniques in these informal classes taught by OSU-trained Master Gardeners. Free Money Management class Held in Lebanon Oct. 22

Learn how to manage your money in the free class “Dollars and Sense” to be held Saturday, Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. at Linn-Benton Community College Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way. Renowned Benjamin Franklin scholar and impersonator Steve Nousen will give a free presentation “An Evening with Dr. Benjamin Franklin: Time to Choose” at Linn-Benton Community College at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 in the Forum, room F-104, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany. Nousen has performed as Benjamin Franklin across the country, entertaining and educating audiences in full costume as this classic American icon.
