Choir Post 4 - Rehearsals & Site Seeing

Saturday, June 30th

7:00 am   We are all awake for breakfast, packing the bags for the day (music, water, etc) and off to rehearsal.

9:00 am  We are introduced to Maestro Eric Knapp who is directing the worldwide mass choir.  We are put into sections with the other choirs and rehearsal begins at St. Andrew Holborn Church.

What a beautiful church!  After rehearsal, the Maestro informed Professor Reddan of how impressed he was with the LBCC Re-Choired Element’s preparation of the music, sound, and positive attitudes.  He also was happy that we asked to stand (sitting during rehearsal was a bit different from our normal standing for several hours) and was pleased with that.  He informed us he will be coming to our solo concert on Monday!  What a great way to start this concert week!

12:30 am  We are of to the South Bank of the River Thames near the Globe Theater.  Lunch and sight seeing.

3:00 pm  Off to the Tower of London!  Over 1000 years of history here, and the crown jewels (but no pictures of the jewels for security reasons).  There are dungeons, Tower Hill, the White Tower where the armory is, state rooms, and so much more.

We also took a few group pictures, including one with Knights Bridge under the large Olympic Rings that had just been unveiled that morning!  We are really here.

After the Tower, we met outside.  The students asked, “can we sing?”…so we did.  We gave and impromptu performance of “Danny Boy” arranged by Darmon Meader.  Within only a few measures, the audience started to assemble!  Wow…they encircled the choir with their families and cameras in hand!  What a treat!  We also saw the old Roman Wall that encircled Londones when it was controlled by the Romans dating back to almost 100 BC.  Get this, there is a tub station right next to it and a park surrounding it!  There is history and culture everywhere!

6:30 pm  We have arrived at our welcome dinner with the other choirs and directors.  Some really good food and good time together!

9:00 pm  Back to the hotel.  Tomorrow is our free day…but we are all in need of some rest!  Good thing there is no wake-up call tomorrow!
