Calapooia Center Gallery Features Frossene King Photographs

“Greece: A Study in Contrasting Views,” an exhibit of photographs by Frossene King of Corvallis, is on exhibit through May 11 in the Calapooia Center Gallery at Linn-Benton Community College, 6500 SW Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.

King’s photographs, which show the economic turmoil in contemporary Greece set against its ancient culture, were made last summer while she was in a study abroad program in Athens.

“Each day our drawing class would walk to ancient archeological sites and picturesque landscapes to sketch the beauty of Greece in the warm summer sun,” King said. “On the way home, however, I saw a much different view–one under great pressure and strife.”

The exhibit includes about 20 photographs taken with an iPhone and small point-and-shoot camera that document the demonstrations and social upheaval currently underway in a country suffering from high unemployment, government budget cuts and a depressed economy.

King is a graduate of LBCC and OSU with two bachelor’s degrees and multiple associate degrees in fine art and graphic design.

The gallery is located in the lobby of the Calapooia Center and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Oregon Construction Contractors Board Education (CCB) will be offered through the Small Business Development Center at Linn-Benton Community College. This five session course will meet on April 22, 29, May 6, 13, and 20 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., on the LBCC Albany campus, Calapooia Center room CC-213. A free Career Fair will be held at Linn‑Benton Community College Career Thursday, April 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Activities Center gym, Albany campus, 6500 Pacific Blvd. S.W. More than 50 businesses, industries and government agencies will provide information on careers and employment opportunities. College advisors will available to answer questions on career and technical training programs. Be prepared to ask questions, distribute your resume and complete applications.
