LBCC Women's Volleyball Team Earns AVCA All-Academic Honors

The LBCC women’s volleyball team earned the AVCA All-Academic Honor for the 2009-2010 academic year.

The American Volleyball Coaches Association award is presented to teams across the nation that earn a 3.0 grade point average or better for the year. LBCC’s volleyball team earned a 3.1 over three terms with 11 varsity players contributing to the overall GPA.

“This year we had an exceptional group of student-athletes,” said LBCC women’s volleyball head coach Jayme Frazier. “Two of the three sophomores graduated with an associate degree this year and immediately transferred to begin at four-year universities. The group of eight freshmen remained diligent and disciplined all throughout the year. Seven of those freshmen will return to the court for the 2010 season.”

Only eight two-year college teams earned the AVCA award this year, and LBCC was the only NWAACC volleyball team and the only two-year West Coast team to receive the award.

LBCC players for the 2009-2010 team were sophomores Luci DeLong, Stephanie Mugleston and Megan Swanson; and freshman Amanda Berry, Emily Buchheit, Ellen Calderon, Kristina Crivello, Mackenzie Gundlach, McKenzie Mumpower, Tamiko Perry, and Amy Trower.
